Good Advice, Not Censorship

Lately, since this site was brought to the “attention” of the school district, I have received a lot of advice from folks above my pay-grade….folks whom I do indeed respect.

The universal opinion seems to be: I’ve been over-board in a few select descriptors of a few of my employers, and while I have every right to criticize anyone, anytime on this site during my off-duty, private hours, I do have a responsibility as a current district administrator to be more professional in my approach to those professionals on our school board. (Whew!)

Since I do have faith in the leadership of those who shared their opinions with me, I must admit that perhaps, just maybe, well, OK…..they may be correct. I may have crossed a couple lines here and there in a meager attempt at satire.

I will not apologize, but I will say that those who shared their opinions have a valid point. The objects of my wrath are human beings with feelings and families. They no doubt believe that they are worthy of their positions of importance. So even in jest, even in a satirical vein, I will no longer make personal attacks based on nonsense, sarcastic improbabilities, or my own befuddled humor.

And, as a result, I will not feel censored. Nor reprimanded. Simply, I was given good advice based on sound judgment.

With that said, I will tell my two unnamed employers that, after working for the district for over 10 years now, I am now vested in my third pension plan, Social Security benefits are close at hand, and I am heavily invested in tax-free municipal bonds that pay a monthly 11.65% yield. Add that to my wife’s stuff (remember, I married up), and I know, at any moment, I can tell them to kiss my grits.

But no, This is the new me. And I will only report the truth as I know it.

Speaking of the Truth

I keep hearing that (not from my director), the genesis’ for the origins of censorship began when an unnamed employer thought I had posted some offending text during my normal work hours.

Turns out, I had taken some personal time that day. Can you imagine the chagrin of an unnamed employer when she found out she couldn’t catch me in a policy violation….and then with that idea shot to hell… had to complain about my offensive musing of this site.

I can only imagine how many smirks were stifled when upper-level administrators listened “intently” to her/hers complaint. My cocktails taste sooo much better when that thought occurs. Bad me, bad me!!!!

I do hope, though, that more staff time is not wasted trying to document my past district emails and internet usage. There I am squeaky clean. But bring it on, unnamed employer/employers. I will be happy to document, again, your private and public chagrin.
