So Who Still Wants the Job???
Last week, the Florida Senate put forth a proposal for school districts facing huge budget cuts.First on the list was to limit Superintendents pay to $225,000. That seems reasonable at this time.
Second on the list was to lower school board members pay to match that of Florida legislators, or about $30,000.
Currently, the members of the Hillsborough School Board make about $40,000. If that salary were lowered, I wonder if any board member would quit, or at least, not run again?
Last election, April Griffin loaned herself over $17,000. Since her timing was good in the past real estate boom, she no doubt paid off that debt after selling her Seminole Heights home to move to Temple Terrace. Question is: would she be willing to spend that much dough on another election for less salary and a good chance of losing?
Jennifer Faliero might also be tempted to not run for office to find a better paying job to support her family. At least she has a good education and is smart and personable.
Griffin, on the other hand, has burned more bridges that General Sherman. I guess she could always get a job as a greeter at some union hall.
Director of Adult Education About to Be Arrested………..
Now that I have your attention, I’m not referring to my friend and boss Elsa Tuggle, Director of Adult Ed for the Hillsborough School District. She’s a jewel, and works harder than…..maybe MaryEllen Elia.
The lady in question is Monique Acevedo, recent Director of Adult Ed in Monroe County( the Florida Keys). She is accused of spending about $95,000 over the past two years on items such as a chandelier, bar stools, a table saw, and extra-large silk suits for her 317 pound husband. The purchases were made with a district credit card, perhaps with federal money intended for Even Start programs.
So you know, her chubby hubby is Randy Acevedo, Superintendent of Monroe County Schools.
Mrs. Acevedo is also accused of diverting $28,000 in cosmetology tuition payments to her personal bank account, as well as stealing money raised by three Key West High School freshman class fundraisers.
I thank God every day our Hillsborough district has such tight fiscal controls. I get gigged if I try to spend a nickel over my pencil budget.

Hey genius, a quick check of the property apparaiser and tax collectors website reveals that Griffin still owns the home in Seminole Heights as well as her Temple Terrace home. Fact checking is taught as early as elementary school yet you clearly cannot handle such a trivial task.
You rail about board members motives, education and competence? You yourself do not have a college degree and have proven beyond a doubt that you are an inept embarassment just as we have suspected. Your self serving motives are also very clear. It is better to let people think you are an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
You need to sweep your own front porch before before you worry about other folks porches. Those of us in Adult Ed laugh at you behind your back and are frankly embarassed for you.
