Loyal Readers and 2010 Candidates

To my great surprise, this site has indeed generated a few daily readers. Most simply tell me personally that they’re mildly amused. I like to think I’ve attracted groupies. Kinda like Andy Borowitz or Stephen Colbert.

While some have actually posted serious comments, others more enjoy the pleasure of short, concise commentary such as, “You’re a Schmidt head”, or, “you’re a bozo.”

I will disclose now that my skin is thin and that my feelings are hurt easily. Just yesterday, someone called me an old rummy. Almost in tears, I politely said no, I prefer Jim Beam.

So everyone knows, any comments made to this site are indeed anonymous. They come through another server and site and I never, ever see an email address. So….while I think anonymous comments are written by scoundrels, I do welcome all debate.

It’s Filing Time Again, So Don’t You Leave Me

Candidates are already filing papers at the Elections Office for their 2010 campaigns; every office from governor down to county commission.

Surprisingly, no one has filed yet for the three Hillsborough School Board slots now held by Candy Olson, Jennifer Faliero, and April Griffin.

If Olson chooses to run again, I doubt she’d generate any serious opposition. She’s the popular south Tampa and south county 300-pound gorilla.

With her east county support coupled with her energy to campaign, I believe Faliero is secure, though I did hear a rumor about a retired elementary principal thinking about running.

As for Griffin, I keep hearing rumors that she may be more interested in running for a county commission seat then again for a school board seat. I can understand her temptation. First, she’d have the support of current county commissioner Kevin Beckner along with most Tampa city council members, all of the local unions, and most Hillsborough’s Democrats. That is nothing to sneeze at.

And, county commissions are paid $90,000 yearly, where school board pays only $40,000 yearly….and that may be reduced soon.

Her real conundrum is: she needs a job, so she must decide which election she can truly win. If she loses, she’ll be begging to be back clerking at some school.
