Cell Towers, Part III

Last evening, I spoke at length with a county commissioner. I asked for his take on the cell tower controversy sparked by a minority of parents within the school district.

He thought cell towers safe, a great source of revenue for each school, and that the county commission has little interest interfering with the school district’s business. He also thought his opinion is shared by the vast majority of other commissioners.

I guess that bad news for the PACT parents (Parents Against Cell Towers) and those NIMBY parents (Not In My Back Yard).

I still agree with La Gaceta’s Patrick Manteiga who said, “I’ll be more supportive when those parents and their children make a bonfire of their cell phones.” And we know that ain’t gonna happen.

The F-Bomb Explosion

Seems like every day we read somewhere that another celebrity used the f-bomb while taping a TV show. Funny thing is, the offender is usually a woman. Shocking I say. And another example of the culture gap widening in my life.

I have yet to become dulled to the dulcet sounds of the f-bomb. On the school campus where I work, the f-bombs explode everywhere—in the hallways, in the parking lot and walkways, in the cafeteria. It is an adult campus, but what the fudge? All too often, the f-bombers are young girls enrolled into difficult medical programs, not the usual suspects from welding or automotive repair.

Soon, I’ll be posting more about student behaviors and discipline (or the lack of) in our schools. Somehow, I know the uninhibited use of profanity is a symptom of other bad behaviors that will eventually destroy our classrooms. As always, the few ruin a good thing for everyone.

Trees

This from a well-regarded district administrator: cut down all trees in Hillsborough County, particularly the oaks. Pollen/allergies: gone; tree damage from thunderstorms and hurricanes: gone; water crisis from trees sucking on the aquifer: gone.

I so badly want to mention a name here!
